Prof. Surgeon Dr. Muhammad Usman, on the day of his retirement, served as the Dean of the Faculty of ENT at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and Sindh Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his SSC with first-class honors from High School Chilas in 1976, and he topped his HSC from Gilgit-Baltistan in 1978. Dr. Usman began his medical education at King Edward Medical College, Lahore, where he pursued his MBBS. He later completed his DLO and FCPS post-graduation from JPMC, Karachi, between 1987 and 1991. He then embarked on a distinguished career in teaching at Sindh Medical University and practicing professionally at JPMC.Throughout his career, Dr. Usman attained various postgraduate specializations from the Royal College of Surgeons, UK. A true warrior during the COVID-19 pandemic, he led efforts from the front, treating patients at the hospital and in various camps. Tragically, he contracted the virus himself and passed away on 16th October 2020 at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi.Dr. Usman’s unwavering dedication to his profession was a testament to his commitment to serving the nation. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, the Government of Pakistan honored him with the prestigious civil award, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. His legacy is defined not only by his professional accomplishments but also by his kindness, wisdom, determination, compassion, and relentless pursuit of excellence. He was an exemplary inspiration, making a positive impact on communities both near and far.Though he is no longer with us, the memories and values he left behind continue to guide us. Let us cherish those memories and honor his spirit by leading lives that reflect his legacy.Rest in eternal peace, dearest brother Prof. Surgeon Dr. Muhammad Usman. You will always be cherished and deeply missed in the rest of our lives.
